Pleasant Green Elementary has been operating since 1985. Our principal is Mrs. Allison Peterson. You can visit our school website here for more information about teachers/staff, after school program, PTA, and more.
Amira
State law requires that students reading below grade level are using this program. A placement test determines which stories are given for students to read. Their reading is recorded by the program and it corrects their mistakes to improve reading accuracy. Students use some power hour time each day reading in this program.
DYAD Reading
Dyad reading is cooperative peer-assisted reading, a lead reader and an assisted reader sit side by side and read aloud from a shared text in unison. Reading partners and reading choices are chosen strategically so that both students benefit from the practice. This reading strategy has been proven to help students make vast reading progress. Though I am relatively new to the 3rd grade team, I know they have seen great reading gains (measured by DIBELS scores) from implementing it.
Power Hour
At Pleasant Green, we believe in differentiating instruction so every student gets what they need. We assess students in Reading and Math, and divide them into targeted classes by ability level. Students are then assigned to a Power Hour class where they receive daily small group instruction, as well as independent educational practice. As needed, students can be moved between groups and classes based on continuing assessment.
Panther Pride Program
Students earn Panther Pride tickets by showing good citizenship: responsibility, respect, helpfulness, etc. Tickets are spent like money at our school store - held approximately every 6 weeks.
Kindness Ambassador Program
At Pleasant Green, we want to accentuate and encourage an environment of kindness and respect. Each classroom teacher chooses 2 students to serve as Kindness Ambassadors for the month. They are responsible for recognizing acts of kindness and distributing kindness tickets. These tickets are entered in a prize drawing which typically occurs on Friday mornings. One prize winner is chosen from each grade level.
Playworks
This company will be involved in our recesses this year to teach games, inclusion, respect, and conflict resolution. Our goal is to help every student feel included, and to help them make the most of their recess time.
