What supplies does my child need for school?
Your child should bring a backpack to school every day. This is the best way to ensure that school work and important notices make it home. We are providing a water bottle for each student this year (only water is permitted - juice, soda, sports drinks, milk are not allowed) All other drinks, snacks supplies, and toys should be left at home. I suggest that ANY personal items (gloves, jackets, hats, water bottles, backpack, etc.) be labeled before they come to school. Please let me know if your child needs an medical exemption from my snacking policy. School is a place for learning, not toys. Please discourage your student from bringing toys to school. Anything that becomes a distraction in class will be confiscated.
How do I know if I should keep my child home from school?
If your student is showing symptoms of illness, please keep them home until the student is symptom free (without medicine) for 24 hours. This is mostly a judgement call on your part, but students with fevers should be kept home for sure.
What sort of classroom parties do you have during the year?
We have class parties for Halloween and Valentine's Day. I will figure out something special for these holidays, and provide details a couple of weeks in advance. At Christmas time, I do not hold a party; but we do watch "The Polar Express" while drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn.
Can my child bring treats for his/her birthday?
Please contact me before bringing in treats to ensure that you will provide enough for all classroom students. Treats must be store bought and individually packaged, no drinks please. Hostess and Little Debbie have many options that would work. Keebler, Pepperidge Farms, Goldfish, Cheez-Its, and other snacks are often packaged into snack sized servings also. Anything like that would be acceptable. I typically have students consume their treats at lunch time. Note: If your student has food allergies, please inform me immediately.
