Pleasant Green PAWSitive Behaviors:
- Positive Attitude
- Always Follow Directions
- Work and Play Safely
- Show Respect
I believe in managing behavior in a positive way to prevent incidents of misbehavior as much as possible. I give Panther Pride tickets and positive reinforcement (verbal recognition of students displaying the appropriate behavior - also reminds students not behaving of what they should be doing). I also have a game-like class reward system that I use on the SmartBoard. I have designed it so students will earn small rewards rather quickly at the beginning of the year, and slowly transition to earning larger rewards over a longer amount of time. Some rewards are food based, some are not (extra recess, sit where you want, 5 minute dance party, etc.).
Our behavior matrix describes the type of behavior expected in various school settings. The Pleasant Green decision tree describes the steps we take at our school if behavior intervention is necessary. I have attached these documents below. I encourage you to review these as a family. Note: when filling out the Behavior Log or Stop and Go form, natural consequences or consequences that make reparations for the inappropriate behavior will be assigned. For example, if a student was being destructive or disrespectful, he/she will spend a little time maintaining or improving the affected area, etc.
Students will receive a warning for mild off task behavior (getting distracted from work/talking). If the behavior does not improve, a Stop and Think sheet will be signed. You will be notified via Class Dojo. If a student has signed 2 of those already, they will receive a Stop and Go. This will be entered into our school's tracking software. I will print a copy of the incident report and send it home with your student. Some Stop and Thinks will be given without warning (arguing, talking back to a teacher, mild inappropriate language, refusal to follow directions, etc). A Stop and Go or Office Referral may also be given immediately for rather serious infractions (the F word or other forms of inappropriate language, physical aggression, extreme disrespect to an adult, etc).
There will be a good behavior reward activity held at the end of each month. Students with one or fewer Stop and Go's (and no office referrals) will be invited to attend that activity. Those are great fun!
